Green Vegetation IndexGreen Vegetation Index (from all imagery sources) A calibrated green vegetation index that has been processed to remove the background noise caused by variation is soil brightness and to enhance sensitivity in biomass estimates after canopy closure. The result is near linearity of vegetation index data from a non-vegetative condition to canopy closure and significant sensitivity for quantifying the amount of vegetation in a dense canopy. The absolute nature of these vegetation indexes allow quantitative change detection between dates and scalability of data interpretation between sensor systems (e.g. Aircraft to QuickBird to Spot to Landsat). This is a unique product that has the capability to change the market for multi-spectral remote sensing. This product overcomes hurdles in image calibration and analysis that have remained unsolvable since the first satellites were launched in the 1970s.
